Effects of alchohol and bipolar medication

By Drust7 Sunday, January 13, 2008
I have recently been under attack by a friend that is bipolar and has been drinking while not taking their medication. This friend has also skipped medication due to lack of funds yet there seems to be funds for alchohol. All I really know about the medication is that there is three types to be taken once a day and this person only takes the morning & noon medication only to skip the 9pm medication claiming it will put them to sleep and they would rather drink with out falling asleep. Would this cause behavior of selfishness, control, & violence?? I have been threatened with knives, punched in the head, (several times), and recieved black eyes from this person. I have heard that bipolar persons should NOT CONSUME ALCHOHOL AT ALL !! Is this true??

I guess the better question is why you are even around this person at this point. If he has done what you just described, my best suggestion is to distance yourself as far away as possible and let him worry about himself. He is self-medicating and not taking medications as prescribed. He is not going to change until he hits his bottom and finds change less painful that where he is at.

At this point and time he doesn’t want to change and you are going to be able to do it for him. Move on with your life without him in it for now. Sounds like a very dangerous situation.

Its not the MAN this time. Its a woman that I have been "trying" to help get her life together and now I am facing felony charges of domestic abuse because she smacked me in the tempo while she was drunk. I pushed her away, she fell and "fractured" not "broke" her nose, and now the state is trying to pursue the charges even though she told police that she was fine. Thats why I want infomation on the effects of alchohol and medications. Thanks

No matter what the diagnosis, nobody should keep themselves in a threatening situation.  Sounds very dangerous to me.

Hi, I agree run as fast as you can, your life is in danger.  You can research on the internet, just go to google and type alchohol and medications.  This will give you a good reference for your own defense.
