My partner has BP2. We have been together for 4 years. It has taken me all this time to get him to a psychiatrist. He is 51 years old and just diagnosed. He has had BP in some form all his life even as a child, looking back.He tells me that in his early years he only had the hypomanic moods without the depression. He has had the depression in the last 8 years, seasonal, (in winter), but also in brief mixed episodes usually as a response to stress, and worse following some marriage breakups He has had three marriages and three divorces. We do not live together and I am reluctant to because there are times we both need space. He is not taking medication. His specialist( who is supposed to be highly regarded) is trying to treat it with mood recognition and mood switching techniques. So far( a few weeks) he seems to have more control over the irritability and anger.Does anyone know if this method is successful in BP2? I would like to know does BP get worse/better or stays the same as he ages if he doesn't take medication.  And can BP 2 turn into BP1 over time?  He has also had the pattern of disappearing every 3 months almost like clockwork and coming back in 2 tp 4 weeks and longer in winter. Has anyone else experienced this?  Sometimes I also think he is in denial...he has thought all his life that he was normal and that everyone felt like he did. What can I do about that? I look forward to your advice.
