I've been prescribed Klonopin.  I usually just take it at night as the anxiety makes it hard to sleep & I try to "ride out" the anxiety during the day as the Klonopin makes me sleepy & I don't want to waste my day being tired.  I hate being tired, but sometimes the anxiety is paralyzing & too overwhelming so I have to take it during the day.

I also am taking a class that is teaching techinques such as mindfulness, breathing techniques, living in the here & now, focusing on only one thing at a time, pausing & trying to think rationally rather than letting my emotions escalate into turning everything into a crisis, etc.  It is helping a lot, but takes a lot of practice!

I've lived with anxiety and bipolar since I was 13.  I am now 48.  I have been on Klonopin and use it as a PRN in case I have a really bad panic attack which rarely happens anymore as I have learned the skills to repress these attacks.  I used to believe that I was going to die from panic attacks and would become catatonic.  I had to stop driving and actually staying in my home for months at a time because I couldn't figure out what was causing my anxiety.  Through therapy and medication and working on my bipolar diesease (I also suffer from PTSD) I figured out that I can personally control my anxiety through breathing techniques.  While I was in the process I also sought out accupuncture which helped.  Reading and arming yourself with the best knowledge possible about anxiety and biopolar is your best weapon.  Taking care of yourself and loving yourself and understanding your condition is the number one key.  Through the internet and books there is a world of knowledge.  If you have a therapist they also can help you with different techniques.  Klonopin is a benzoidazpem and not a good long term drug, it actually can cause panic attacks with long term use.  There are other types of drugs they can use which are not benzos which are just as effective and do not have the "addicitive" and "bad" side effects.  Read, and study.  Your Dr only has so much time to spend with you so the more you know the better your time spent with your Dr will help you.  Good luck!!
