Hi Keshia,

The quick(est) answer comes down to one word - support. There is a very good posting by one of the HealthCentral Experts who lives with it. Click here to read the sharepost by C J Gregory. Although it is pitched at the first 48 hours many of the issues in his top ten list are actually good general principles.

In and amongst all this don't forget about yourself! You will find several shareposts on different aspects of living with bipolar simply by typing the word 'spouse' in the site search engine.

Thanks for posting

Something that has been helpful for my boyfriend and I (I have bipolar disorder) is going to a support group. We go together and he grumps occasionally that Thursday night is filled up, but we go almost every week nonetheless. It can be hard to make that first decision to go, not knowing who you will meet, etc. Even if your diagonosed spouse does not want to go, many support people come to our group to learn more and just realize other people are dealing with similar issues. Yes, take care of yourself! Best of luck.
