Q: Social security & part time work

I work part time for my brother in law as a legal secretary. I make very little money & desperately need more. My disorder will not allow me to function in two jobs or even one full time job. Even on meds,  my brain never slows down enough to allow me to concentrate, my head is always cloudy & I can't remember a thing most days. It's been especially bad lately & everytime I try to find another job, I get overwhelmed just at the thought of it. I make less that the highest amt you're allowed in order to get Social Security but I don't know how to prove to them that my head won't work the right way so that I wouldn't get fired from a full time job even IF I could find one.

Even working part time is incredibly difficult for me. If I didn't work for a family member, I'd have been fired a long time ago but luckily he's very understanding & accomidating.

I would really like to start the process of applying for social security but I'm not sure how to go about it and I've seen that many people need attorney's in order to win. OH, my brother in law just so happens to be an attorney too although he doesn't do Social Security cases. I also have four children at home to take care of as well, which makes working at all a major task.
