I am new to this Lysa I have delt with everything your talking about. I have yet to have received treatment for i am now just realizing and coming to grip with the fact that i am bipolar. But I do take a small dosage of adderall and i feel like it helps me get going on days that if i did not take it i would just lay around all day.But i am scheduling a doctors appointment today to get on some type of bipolar med. and i will let you know how it turns out. I have no idea how old you are but if you are not 18 i suggest you discuss taking any type of med. with your parents first.

I started my daughter on seroquel to help her sleep at night (also should help with depression)/Depakote during day time.

Your parents (if your are under 18) and Dr. can request 504 forms from your school. They can then plan appropriated school schedules for you.  You may be allow an extra help, able to turn in late work, or go to school later like 10:00 AM especially when you are in a manic stage and couldn't sleep.

You shouldn't have to deal with extra stress with school.

Take care & Good luck,

It sounds like what you may be going through is called a "mixed episode." It is important for you to know that it can be treated. I have just gotten out of one- and it feels horrible. I'm sorry you are suffering right now. I was staying up at night- NOT by choice- I couldn't concentrate, I couldn't articulate, I was just a jumbled mess. It is a horrible feeling when you KNOW that something isn't right, but you get dismissed by everyone. My advice is to TALK ABOUT WHAT YOU ARE EXPERIENCING to your psychiatrist/psychologist. If you can't see them often enough, please research what counseling services are available through your school. It is also helpful to identify what is in your control right now, and one thing that is probably stressing you out is the feeling that you are failing school. By law, schools are required to make reasonable accomodations for students who are having medical difficulties. If you can negotiate a leave of absence from school, you will be able to resume when you have gotten everything straightened out, and are feeling well enough to concentrate on school. Don't give up! Believe that everything will be okay, but make a plan to make it so.

I don't know how old you are but I am 51 years old with bi-polar.

When I first had an episode at 18 even the doctor (in 1976) didn't really know what to think so I stayed in the hospital for a month while they tried different drugs.

The mania went away but I was off and on depressed and hypomanic through college.

There were a lot of tears, depression, confusion and anger...

I did stay in therapy as much as I could.

Finally, I started to just try to have a simple life and I put it back together.  I got married and had 3 kids.  I work some.  My husband helps me with my moods.

Don't try to do too much or expect it will be "all great in one day.
Get help.  Listen to critisicm (even though its not your fault you got this disease and other people who are messed up are having a great life.)

Later when you are old (like me) you will see that life has a lot of diasappointments for everyone.

I still struggle but I know everyone else is too.

Good luck to you.  And take care of yourself (really!!!)
