Hi John

I drink about two mugs full of coffee a day and I have not had any bad effects.  However,  I have noticed that if I wake up in an irritable mood, ( know it is going to be an off day) and I drink more than two mugs, which sometimes I do, it seems to make my irritability worse.   I also don't drink it after 1:00 as it keeps me up and messes up my sleep pattern....which is not a good thing for me.  But, all in all, I don't have problems with coffee.  Everyone's chemical makeup is different, so I would suggest you log how you are without coffee, how you are with one cup, two cups, etc.  and go from there.

hope that helped you.

It is often said that caffeine can have a negative effect on bps, especially if they are subject to mania, as caffeine is a stimulant - and strong coffee has a lot of it! I recently mistakenly had a Starbucks iced coffee with expresso in it & was high all afternoon!  That said, sometimes if when I am in a depressed state, I do use small doses of caffeine - a diet coke - a cafe au lait - to help me get going.  But I have to be very careful about how I use it.  Remember, caffeine is a drug, too - so you  must treat it as such. (And remember caffeine in the evening or even afternoon may affect your sleeping negatively!)
