I am a 36 yo female that has bipolar type I illness and hypothyroidism. I was wondering if there may be a doctor available that is well versed in both areas to maybe find a connection between the two to help lessen the mixed states that I have been dealing with for the past 6 months.

YES. Statistically people with bipolar have problems with low thyroid more commonly than the general population & the symptoms often mimic the symptoms of bipolar (or unipolar) depression: fatigue, loss of concentration, "fuzzy thinking." I have low thyroid & take medication for it & also have bipolar 1 & take numerous meds for it.
My mother also had low thyroid & bipolar 1, as well. Get a thorough physical & blood work done. I also have pernicious anemia that has the symptoms of (you guessed it): depression, low energy, but also vertigo & if untreated--insanity--which my husband claims has already set in. Monthly B-12 shots are required or high doses of B-12 taken orally.

I also have been wondering the same thing. Prior to this I was told 'it is related' but how is still the question that is unanswered. I hope we get an answer.
