Q: Affair with someone who has Bipolar Disorder

My husband has left me for someone who has bipolar disorder who is also married. He says they are in love. How do bipolar people really feel about their lovers while they are going through their mania?  If so, how long does the love feelings last and are they real?

Hi... I am by no means an expert...but from what I have read, and from what BP people have told me is that when in the mania phase...you need the "high" or the excitement that a new lover can give you. Once they come down, chances are it will have been just a fling. One girl told me that she would have flings and break hearts all the time, before she got some help and meds. Hope that helps some...this could just be a rush he is feeling. Reply
