Q: Neice On Lithium (+?), no doctor to follow her-lives in STL, no ins. no openings in clinic HELP

She lost insurance when she lost her job. Going to school but having difficulty with her meds/adjustment (lithium +?). Had crisis and meds were doubled but no clinics in the ST Louis area will accept her (not taking new patients). Has called around for assistance but was told that she will just have to be admitted to the hospital again if she goes into crisis again. No one to follow her meds (previous MD not a psychiatrist or psychologist-did not understand her meds well enough). She really needs someone to follow her (on a sliding scale payment) to keeps her medications current and try and prevent another crisis (and unnecessary hospitalization). She is desperate for help.

Has she gone to a hospital? Has she contacted Social Services? If there is a larger, very active church in the area, she could go there. If she gets the right person, at the right time, she might get help.

Of course, if she goes to the local hospital, and claims to be a danger to herself or others, they will take her in. Maybe then she can get the help she needs and deserves.

Once she is medicated again, getting Lithium comped by a drug company will be easy. As a naturally-occuring element, it is very cheap.

Hope and pray this helps.

With the information you shared, and the fact that she very well may be a threat, I personally would go with option #2.

Keep in touch, please. Laughing

If she can get all her records together, she can apply for disability through Social Security Administration!
