Hi, From everything I've read the answer is yes, but I sure hope it's not true!!!!! I can say for sure that it gets worse at perimenopause, and menopause time!!!

Yes, definitely.  There is no other way to control the disorder, no matter who tells you otherwise.  Counseling is also suggested for life as well.  It also tends to get much worse, more destructive, and more prolonged (episodes) with age.

 

Without meds, the outcome over time, untreated, can easily be suicide, brain damage,, homelessness, bankruptcy, and a very lonely existence because the BP sufferer tends to throw away the only people who care enough to help them.  Their loved ones can be ruined and destroyed for life.

 

Meds are the glue that holds the BP sufferer and their loved ones together.  Without them, it is certain total destruction for the sufferer and their families.

 

Sorry to be so frank, but those are the facts and they are not pretty.  Don't see the need to sugar-coat the seriousness of this disorder and the horrific impact on so many loved ones as well.

 

Read a recent study which concluded that of all the illnesses out there, only 2 severe forms of cancer had the same devastating affect on families and loved ones as Bipolar Disorder.
