My husband sought help at a clinic after I couldn't take any more of his abusive behaviour, unwise choices, etc and he was diagnosed with severe depression. He has a caseworker coming to talk to him weekly and I have expressed concerns that I feel he is bipolar. After we married, he would easily blow up in a rage at little things, be irritable/moody for no reason. When he drives, especially on the highway, he takes risks and everyone says he is dangerous- he drives at high speeds at times and races people, cuts people off, doesn't like to be crowded in etc. He doesn't like to be around people at all, when I ask him something he doesn't want to talk about and if I continue, he gets verbally abusive and has been physical. He has only worked for half of our marriage, as he has problems at work with people. He seems not to be able to pay attention and after repeating myself for days, still will not have heard something I've said. He has in the past gone off and gambled, about 6 times in 2 years, but not in the last year. He didn't tell me where he was and gone for 1/2 days. He has gone back to smoking pot on many occasions without me knowing. There are times he feels useless, unmotivated to do anything and does nothing for a time and then seems to be ok and it goes back and forth. He is irritable on a morning and I know to stay away. He is negative, pessimistic, always talking badly about people and saying that no-one likes him, etc when they haven't done anything to him. He has a sister who is bi-polar, a brother who is alcoholic, one who executed on deathrow, and several others who have been on depression medications over the years. His father was an alcoholic and was abusive, and has been on antidepressants for years.
My husband is taking citalopram, which has taken the edge off things, but nothing has really changed that much. The caseworker asked me when was his last manic episode and because it wasn't recently, he feels he doesn't have bi-polar. Any advise please?

if a case worker asked when was his last manic episode then she also thinks
that he has bipolar. And it never hurts to get a second opionion from a
psychiatrist.
