Q: if someone constantly tells lies and makes up stories is it bipolar behavior?

My sister is 40 and has been tellling lies and lives in a delutionary state. She speaks of jobs she has never held; has been unemployed for the last 10 years; she says she speaks languages she does not. Otherwise her health is fien, she refuses to see a doctor. She is able to go about her daily routine quite normally. My older sister is bipolar and I am told one of my mother's uncle was schizophrenic before he died.

I want to help my sister, but she refuses to see a doctor and I am unable to get her to one.  Please advise.

Hi, Gg. I cannot speak for your sister, but as a general rule: Lying does not come with the territory for bipolar. Even if your sister has bipolar, chances are it is not the cause of her lying. More likely, it is part of her temperament or some kind of personality disorder. In which case, the best treatment would be talking therapy to get to the bottom of the lying issue. But the catch is she refuses treatment.

This throws the issue back to you: How are you going to treat a liar in your life? Do you love her anyway? Or do you distance yourself from her? There is no right or wrong answer here.
