Q: I am an insomniac and have taken ambien for three years...it has lost its effectiveness.

Since I am now caring for my 89 year old mother, it is either stay awake all night with no meds, or take the generic Zolpidem and perhaps not hear her all the time.  Lunesta does nada.  any suggestions?

I've been an insomniac since conception, if you ask my Mother. I went through all the sleep meds and have found a miracle, seriously...

Melatonin, over the counter and availible online or at a heath food store. I went to a sleep specialist and he prescribed .25 mg, under the tounge, every day at about 3:30 pm and I sleep w/out any meds and have for years. Yes, 3:30 pm it seems odd, but it balances the chemicals in the brain to get your circadian rythms back to normal.

Give it a shot. I am 5'6" and about 140 lbs. and .25 works great for me, so start low and work up. If I take too high of a dose I can't sleep either, but it's cheap and amazing!!!

If you have any other questions about it, drop me a line, I know your pain of sleeplessness.
