Q: I decided last week to stop taking my medications

I decided last week to stop taking my medications(Depakote and Cymbalta) because my insurance will not cover my preexisting condition and therefore cannot afford treatment or medication. How long should I expect the dizziness and headaches to continue? And is there anything else that I should expect? Thank you!

It sounds like your going cold turkey, which is never advisable.  Not only do you go through withdrawls. You are putting yourself at risk of going Manic.  Your brain is use to receiving these chemicals, and it has to slowly learn in not getting them.  I have been on Seroquel for 6 years, and I am being weaned off.  I am now going into my third week.  It will take me anothen 4 to 5 weeks to completely stop.  You should check with your pharmacy if they have a program that helps with the cost.  Or you can contact the maker of the drugs.  Better yet your Pdoc should be able to get you samples, atleast to help you in weaning off of them.  Check with your mental health services in your area, there is always a better choice.  Perhaps your doctor can change your med's, maybe there is a gernetic drug.  I wish you the best of luckSmile
