Q: does a bipolar need antipsychotic and mood stablizer for life?

I've had bipolar for 10 years and have been on various mood stabilizers and anti-psychotics for that time. Sometimes I have taken only a mood stabalizer. Even though I've stuck with the meds (they've changed over time), I have been hospitalized three times. The first hospitalization I had stopped taking my meds.
