Shoegirl38,

It is more likely that the catatonia is related to her depression.  25-50% of catatonic states occur in relation to a mood disorder and can coincide with a depressive, manic or mixed episode.  I am going to assume she was prescribed Geodone to treat her depressive symptoms.  Stopping the Geodon may be what allowed the depression to escalte and may have led the feature of catatonia manifesting.

This must be a bit frightful for you and your mother as well.  It is good she is being treated.  Hopefully, she will recover soon and can return to her home.  I am confident there will be some discussion about discontiuation of medication and that you and those around her will know what to look for and how best to respond if this situation ever occurs again.

Best wishes...
