Q: what is zyprexa used for?

i have  had issues with depression all my life.  in the last year it has become a real problem.  i have been taking meds for this and aniexty.  recently i have had new symtoms that i think might be panic attacks.  my doctors has increased my depression medication and gave me samples of zyprexa.   she wants me to take this at night before bed.  which i have.  she has not mentioned anything sbout bipolar, i have just been reading up on it.  anyway, my question is:  is zyprexa used for depression?

It can be used in combination with Prozac for treatment resistent depression, meaning if nothing else has worked for your depression they can use it for depression.  I also found info on off-label uses for it: anxiety disorder, panic disorder and PTSD.  I was prescribed it when I stopped taking narcotic pain killers in the first few months to help me relax and sleep, to reduce the anxiety from coming off the drugs.  It worked great for sleep for me, but I warn you that I gained a lot of weight taking it, about 40 lbs.  That's why I stopped taking it.  I have also been diagnosed bipolar, but that wasn't what my psych doc prescribed it for.  I now take seroquel for sleep and like it much better-no more weight gain!  Hope this helps.
