Q: Bipolar 1 okay to take Wellbutrin?

I have Bipolar 1 and I have had many manic episodes one which was so bad that I had a psychotic break from reality with hallucinations.  I was on an antidepressant during the pychotic break.  My new doctor just prescribed me Wellbutrin.  I was told by my old doctors that I should never take an antidepressant again.  My new doctor thinks it is safe because I am on Lithium.  I feel manic even though I am on the lithium if that is even possible.  I don't mean to second guess a dr. but is it safe to take Wellbutrin with my history?
