Q: Do psychiatrists always just do medication management and not talking therapy?

I am seeing a psychiatrist and a therapist. I dispise having to see two people for the same thing. I feel like I am not getting the right attention from either. I want to talk in depth about my symptoms and issues to the person that is in control of my medications. I am still confused on what is a symptom and what is "normal" thinking. Is there any way to find a psychiatrist that does both, or is that just in the movies?

Most pyschiatrists do not do "talk therapy" any longer. Actually an article was just released today stating that shrinks are opting out of that line of therapy. If you are unhappy with the lack of care you are getting I hope you have told both your doctor and therapist that you don't feel you are being treated adequately and if you have and nothing has changed, if you can, get new doctors.

If you are confused about what is "normal" (a word I try not to use because no one is normal) do your own research or ask in this forum or another.

Your shrink does need to know your symptoms/issues but they usually only give you a short time to talk about it, make a list before you go in and make sure you talk to them about it and then give them your list.
