Q: Average length of depressed state

Hello:

This site is new to me and I am so glad I found it.  Sorry I keep asking so many questions...   Is there an average length of time the depressed phase lasts?   He went off his medication a week ago.  He also has "lycantrophy" where he thinks he changes into a wolf.  Is this also typical behavior?   I really do not want to lose him because when he is on his medication, he is the best man ever..loving, caring, treats me like a queen.

The average length of a depressive episode, with treatment is 3 months.  Untreated a depressive episode can last 6 to 13 months.  Medication seems to be the best choice to decrease the length of his episode.

Your boyfriend's belief that he is a lycanthrope may be due to psychosis that is sometimes associated with severe depression.  He may also be experiencing what is called a mixed episode, where symptoms of depression and mania occur together.  In either case treatment is the best option to reduce the biological and psychological damage that is occuring.

Thank you so much for the reply.   I really want him to go back on his medications, but at this point he isn't even taking my phone calls.   I do not know what I can do.   He lives in a different town than I, so I'm thinking of driving up there this weekend and see if he will answer the door for me.   I have never seen him angry, but he is a very large intimidating man so I am kind of afraid of how he will react.    My heart is breaking over him and everything he is going thru.
