I go away into my own space until i relax, i basically retreat, I cant control how I feel- being angry, but i can realize it is an emotion and i can control my response to these emotions.

I get to do a lot of apologising, and as it is in the non bipolar world, when you get angry you always loose. You may be justified in your anger, but anger is always seen as an attack, and to attack someone who is not seeing things your way is not acceptable. I know it is often a bipolar trigger that has caused our anger and we will get angry, forgive yourself for being angry, but I know it helps everyone if you are able to apologise for your angry outburst. It works for me.

When I get extremely angry I shut myself off from everyone, don't answer the phone or door and wait until I am calm again.  My anger scares me.

If it gets real bad, I usually end up hurting myself in some way such as hitting, burning, or cutting myself. I cannot allow myself to hurt others in any way.

I explode and yell at the people who care about me, or I hit myself. I end up feeling like an alien in this world wanting to go home.

Are you on medication? Perhaps your dose needs to be adjusted, or you need to figure out what your anger triggers are so that perhaps they can be stopped before they get out of control.  I am not BP, but my ex-husband/boyfriend is.  His anger is very out of control.  I notice that he has a hard time dealing with stressful situations. He takes everything out on me, which triggers him to go into worse mania because he feels bad for the way he treats me.

HI , AND THAT DOES HAPPEN SOMETIMES, THE RESULTS R NOT GOOD, I LOOSE A FRIEND, A JOB OR WHATEVER ! BUT I CAN NOT STAY IN CONTROL ALL TIME, I AM 74 AND IT HAS MADE MY LIFE VERY DIFFCULT >

WE NEED MORE HELP THAN WE GET ! MOST PEOPLE DO NOT UNDERSTAND MY MOOD SWINGS. SOMETIMES I OWN THE WORLD, AND NOT ANYTHING CAN UPSET ME, THEN FOR NO REAL REASON I CRY OR AM ANGRY.

do you mean to prevent a loss of control, or after you've already lost it?

for the former, I go into a bathroom (to get away from people) and begin counting in binary.  (I'm a n3rd, I know.)  another major thing I do is sing the alphabet.  basically, just something mindless that I can chant.

and the latter ... well, I'm a self-injurer (cutting, burning, etc.).  if you want to know more, ask me personally. not something I want to neccessarily dicuss here, like this.

I walk quickly for miles talking to and finding solutions within myself Sometimes up to 10 miles. Howevr I never look where I am going and have  often walked so far that I have gotten lost in areas that I do not know.

I'm not really good at that one especially if it's my husband that made me mad.  My kids on the other hand I try to walk away and get them out of my sight.  But sometimes that doesn't even work.  I sometimes lash out and hit.

breathing exercises counting to 10 deep breaths in and out...if that doesn't work, then lay down flat and breath in and out deep breaths holding your stomach as you take the breaths. hope that helps you. one more if you love music like me get you a mp3 player or i-pod and down load your favorite music and listen anywhere to clam down. peace outLaughing

Walk away from the situation. take a walk in a favorite place. Go shopping for a small but nice treat for myself.

i TRY TO UNDERSTAND JUST WHERE THE ANGER IS ORIGINATING FROM.  MOST TIMES MY ANGER HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WHAT IS HAPPENING AT THAT MOMENT.  IT REALLY HAS CAUSED ME A LOT OF DAMAGE THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF I COULD HAVE STOOD BACK AND EXAMINED MY FEELINGS INSTEAD OF ACTING ON THEM.

I can be very confrontive which I feel is good to clear the air unless the other

person or people deny and scheme and put me on the spot  Then I have to rage,

have a tearful episode, or be passive to end the situation
