Why is there no information or help out there for bipolar parents with bipolar children? Considering the genetic factor, I would've thought the situation not uncommon, but I can't find any help or advice anywhere. Being a bipolar parent with bipolar children is a whole different ball game than having one or the other without the disorder coping with the needs of the one who has it. How does a family in this situation hope to thrive? School is a particularly difficult issue. The iep team expects me to follow through the same way any unaffected parent would. I get labled as the parent who doesn't care or try hard enough, and then I label myself as the "loser mom". I care a great deal about the welfare and education of my children, but the mental health issues I deal with would get in the way of helping a mentally healthy child, let alone one dealing with the same issues I am. I've chosen to homeschool for now, because the public school option was causing so much stress in our family that no one was happy -- ever! I cannot afford private school. Even if I could, we'd run into the same problems. What to do?
