Q: Is the medical community interested in curing mental illness?

It seems like drugging up all the 'crazies' and taking away our civil liberties is the thing to do lately with the rash of news stories about how mentally ill people lash out against the poor defenseless public. I was diagnosed as bipolar 4 years ago and completely jaded by the mental health system already and have also never been violent a day in my life, but it makes me very nervous to question my psychiatrist and just take my meds like a 'good girl' b/c I don't want my freedom taken away from me. I used to trust the government, but why trust something that wants to lock me away for not doing anything wrong? The medical community needs to understand that mental illness needs to be cured now, and better meds need to be approved.
