Charlotte,

There is no one answer to this question, since the med combo that helps a person with bipolar disorder varies from person to person. From my experience, it takes whatever combination proves to be effective. I realize that sounds like a cop out, but it is the truth.

It took me 12 years to find a combination that levels out my moods, and even then it is by no means perfect. It is just that the mood swings are less drastic, and manageable.

In one way, bipolar is like a diamond; it's forever. It takes a lifetime of adjusting, and then readjusting.

You must find a good pDoc, one that you can trust, and then trust him/her. Let this person monitor your meds carefully, and follow what they tell you. I know some in my family criticize the faith that I have in my pDoc, but what choice do I have. When in doubt, trust the experts. But remain vigilant; tell them the truth about how you feel, and what is going on in your life. If they don't have the facts, they can't make good decisions.

I am currrently taking Lithium, Adderall, Effexor,Welbutrin and Seroquil. This is working for now. FYI: my journey bagan with one.

God bless you on your journey. Remember, no matter what the journey, enjoy. It's yours to do with as you wish.
