Charlotte,

There is no one answer to this question, since the med combo that helps a person with bipolar disorder varies from person to person. From my experience, it takes whatever combination proves to be effective. I realize that sounds like a cop out, but it is the truth.

It took me 12 years to find a combination that levels out my moods, and even then it is by no means perfect. It is just that the mood swings are less drastic, and manageable.

In one way, bipolar is like a diamond; it's forever. It takes a lifetime of adjusting, and then readjusting.

You must find a good pDoc, one that you can trust, and then trust him/her. Let this person monitor your meds carefully, and follow what they tell you. I know some in my family criticize the faith that I have in my pDoc, but what choice do I have. When in doubt, trust the experts. But remain vigilant; tell them the truth about how you feel, and what is going on in your life. If they don't have the facts, they can't make good decisions.

I am currrently taking Lithium, Adderall, Effexor,Welbutrin and Seroquil. This is working for now. FYI: my journey bagan with one.

God bless you on your journey. Remember, no matter what the journey, enjoy. It's yours to do with as you wish.

i'am currently on tpomax, fiorcet for migrains and xanax but it is not working. Iam taking more than id like to but no doctor will prescibe more and wont put me on klonopin. I think the klonopin will work better if they up the dosage becaues Ive been on anax for a year now and it just doesnt seem to work the way it use to but they wont up the dosage.. Ive tried many other including ...lamictol..alivil, depakote and they do not work i dont know what to do i would personal like to be on 2 meds only. I like the xanax , and the fiorcet for migrains. I really dont know what to do maybe im just going to the wrong doctor! im also seeing a therapist and a nurologist for all this sever anxiety and stress and was diagnosed with bipolor i think no doctor ever knows a thing about a thing unless they look into their little book and just wing it. I know what I have and it sever anxiety and stress disorder...you cant take someone off of a barbituate cold turkey and expect them to be fine... shakes, tremors, hot cold flashes loss of appetite .. not wanting to go out cause of social anxiety, chest pains
