Q: what do you say to a spouse with bipolar who is ashamed about it

My wife and I went to marriage counceling and the counceler belives that my wife has bipolar disorder. She tells me sometimes that she needs to do something about it and other times she is down right nasty about going to get help. She is really bad sometimes and crawls into bed and crys. We have been married for 10 years and it is getting worse. Sometimes it is great and other times she is threating divorce. She says that she would do better alone and not have to listen to anyone and do whatever she wants to do. She don't like people telling her what to do. I still love her and I want her to get help for this problem. I know and understand that I can not change her feelings for getting the help that she so badly needs. I need help dealing with her and I don't want to say the wrong thing to upset her. What can I do as her husband. I don't want to take the abuse any more.

I would say.. if u truly love that person u would help in any way and be their thru it all. start with a psychologist and stand besider her thru evaluations. once the proper meds are used and thru pain and maybe tears ur spouse will get over the denial, that word bipolar is scarry at times but its only a name. Ur spouse must really want the change in life truly. Its not easy but a huge relief once accepted, and lucky to have a new reason to live. can't go wrong their. Reply
