Q: Are the changes between depressive and manic states more sudden during the first few months after developing bipolar?

I'm pretty sure I'm bipolar but haven't been diagnosed with it yet so I could be wrong but my councillor's also pretty certain that I am. I was just wondering if during the beginning of bipolar a person tends to change from depression to mania really quickly? Because that's what's happening with me. Although I'm generally more depressed than I am manic, when I do change, I change within a few hours and don't seem to have any periods of normality between episodes. Will this cycle slow down over time or will I always have rapid-cycling bipolar? Please help! Thanks
