Q: Being a parent with bipolar disorder

Are people with bipolar crazy or can they live normal lives? Will you ever be able to make good sound judgements? Will you still be able to be a good parent?

No we are not crazy and we can live productively. Normal, or People without this disability, don't always make sound judgements. Don't be afraid to ask for help.  You can be a great parent, perhaps even a better one, since you're more in tuned with your emotions and creativity.  Just take the meds, make the adjustments when its needed.  don't wait til crisis to get help you need.

I ask my self this every day! Its hard! Currently I was fired from my job due to being bipolar and my medical insurance was taken from me. I am holding on to all the medications I have that calm me down. I am supose to take Depakote, Lithium, Remeron, and Klonopin. I only take the Klonopin because the others have to be tested through my blood. My job screwed me on my unemployment because they didn't even put in the statement I even had bipolar! Thanks to them. I am struggling each day. But my 4 year old. She is my heart and she is what is keeping from going CRAZY!

The thing is that you maybe have not found the right combonation of meds. It took me 3 1/2 years to get the right combo and now i am back to my normal self, sure i do have some bipolar moments but i am able to lead a producative life and i am a parent as well.  My ex left me, cause he couldn't handle the evils of bipolar. But now that most of my stress is gone i can see a BIG change! jsut keep at it. I got on disability just recently and i voulenteer so that makes things a lot less stressful as well. maybe try that.
