Q: my sister is in complete denial about her bipolar, how can we get her to seek treatment ?

She announced about 5 years ago that she was diagnosed with bipolar but has not mentioned it since> she has been ill for most of her adult life and is now 48> she has managed to get a prescription for effexor and tells us she takes 400mg a day. no one believes her as she has no insurance and the dosage seems extreme, they are alse very expensive and she has little money due to poor spending habits. She is very difficult to approach and she believes she is right about everything. Her husband and childhood sweetheart divorced her 5 years ago and actually told me he hates her! Her teenage daughter also left due to her behaviour. her 6 year old lives with her but we (the family) worry about her as her mommy drinks alot of alcohol.Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou Brenda
