Q: What is the progression of Bipolar?

I want to know because I have Bipolar 1.

Hi, Goodguy. There is no one answer that applies to all. There is a theory that the illness gets worse if untreated, but a counter-theory suggests that the brain has a limitless capacity to heal.

 

It's genrally best to assume both theories are correct, and govern your life accordingly. In other words, act as if you have a chronic illness that can flare up at any time. Stick with your meds and live wisely. At the same time work on recovery techniques (such as reducing stress) that will give your brain a chance to heal.

 

Bipolar is always going to be a challenge, but your prospects are very good.

I guess it would be related to what progress you are doing with your bipolar.  You should keep a journal of how you are feeling,etc. for your doctor.  I was diagnosed with bipolar 1 also but I have never heard voices or seen things that weren't there.  I always get put on an antipsychotic even though.   Progression of bipolar is how well you are getting with treatment/therapy.
