Q: Xanax, Effexor, and Lamentil - why all three and can't I quit one.

Twenty-Five years ago the Dr. prescribed Xanax for me.  He said I was having panic attacks or anxiety attacks.  Years later I was prescribe Prozac.  The prozac was changed to Effexor XR later.  Within the last two years I have been prescribed Lamentil.  Now I'm taking all three.  The Xanax averages 3 - 4 mg each night.  THe Effexor XR is 200 mg in the morning and the Lamentil is 150 mg in the morning also.  After this many years of Xanax, I would still like to quit taking it although I don't know why.  I guess it's just the though of having to take so much.  I keep reading that Xanax contributes to depression.  If this is the case, shouldn't I begin cutting back slowly until I've completly done away with it?

I ain't no doctor ... but I would think if you're taking Effexor and Lamictal that should be all you need.  A good psychiatrist would be helpful.  Sealed

Mae,

why do you feel a good phychiatrist would be helpful?  Also, what is the defination is a 'good' one; one that tell me what I want to hear, or what that can actually tell me what the problem is.  One that I talked to wanted to start with my childhood.  Shoot, there's nothing I can do about the problems I've had in the past.  Your past even has an effect on your present, as well as future.  Part of me thinks it's a helpless cause - part of me thinks living in an isolated area is the answer - and part of me doesn't have a clue what the answer would be.
