Can I be a parole officer if I have bipolar disorder? Will disclosure make me fail the mental health
Can I be a parole officer if I have bipolar disorder? I am worried that I won't pass the mental health part of the background investigation due to this "diagnosis". Does anyone know how the mental health exam for this type of field works? ...Thanks.
What you need to do is find out what mental health laws you have where you live. I don't know if you have to be compelled to release this info. This is something you will have to find out. Good luck to you! Do a web search to start.

I'm studying to be a probation officer myself my instructors tell me it shouldn't be a problem i tell them i'm bipolar, one even told by being bipolar would help me because we have a knack for knowing when we;re being lied to or mislead. Hope this helps, the worst they could do is have you take your medication, good luck.

Thank you for the info, I will try that. My main concern is that even though there may be laws against descrimination for this condition there will still be some form of unspoken descrimination (which is pretty common), or another candidate will be chosen who is less or equally qualified if this personal information is revealed.
