Q: I am confused about bi polar - does my partner have it?

Have you looked up the other symptoms of bipolar?  I believe you can find a list on this site.  I thought my ex's problem was stress.  Instead of us making excuses for their behavior, we (if not them) should be paying closer attention when it gets as bad as them over-spending, raging, having mood swings, etc.  Also, does anything like this run in his family?  This is usually a genetic illness.

Thank you for replying to me - it has been a very bad couple of days so I haven't been able to log on.

Yes - it did run in his family in so much his father had some alcohol/mental problems but as with many families of that era they put it down to the effects of the war, poverty and alcohol.  My partners is also an x serviceman and from what Ive read extreme stress can bring this'out' if that's the right term???? He has suffered a lot and gone through post traumatic stress for many years (flashback, sweating, nightmares and so on)

I used to think he was 'normal' until he drank (which is true) but I am beginning to wonder what is going on inside his head to lead him to drink very heavily.

Thank you so much for replying to me -  I sometimes think its me that has something wrong because I am not the same person anymore since Ive been with him
