From my experience, the key to manage mood swing is: suitable medication + slow down during high cycle + exercise in low cycle.

Finding good combination of medication is first priority -- it helps control the secretion of dopamine and serotonin in your brain (which affects ur mood).

Try to identify your mood swings in mood charts -- if you realise that you are on the high side, avoid excessive stimulation eg clubbing, social interaction, try to be on your own and spend ur energy on something useful -- discipline and concentration help -- but these dont come in a day, must come in training. Be patient.

When you are terribly depressed, you have to fight against it by going out, meeting friends, exercise...

But what really helps me is my religion -- it cures my soul.  Hope you will be inspired and can rely on the Ultimate Force out there to help you through.

Good luck and God bless

Hi, Ash. Some people can reign in their moodswings through rigorous awareness and self-discipline, but in nearly every case only after they have learned these techniques while on meds.

As a general rule, until you master recovery techniques, your meds are going to do the heavy lifting. As your recovery techniques kick in - and this may take years - you may be in a position to gradually lower your meds.

It is foolhardy to consider meds vs recovery techniques as an either-or proposition. The meds will buy you time and put you in a position to begin your recovery journey. It's going to take time. Get the meds working for you first.
