Q: How do you help a family member that firmly believe's she has been misdiagnosed with Bipolar??

My aunt has had the symptoms of bipolar for 7 years. Many professionals have the same diagnosis for her. Please help!! She is 63 years old and a widow for 7 years. No hobbies and financially secure.

It's very unusual for someone to begin showing symptoms of bipolar disorder in their 50s. However, you said she has been showing symptoms for 7 years and has been widowed for 7 years. Did the symptoms begin shortly after her husband's death? Sometimes extreme stress can trigger symptoms.

There are, however, a number of medical conditions with symptoms that can mimic those of bipolar disorder. If your aunt hasn't had a comprehensive physical exam during that time, she should have one (not just because of these symptoms, but in general).

It would be helpful if you would give some details about the symptoms.
