I have a boyfriend who is bipolar. He gets upset with pretty easily over the little things. It makes me consider breaking up with him. I mean, I love him dearly, and he is pretty awesome when hes not going "off" on me. I just wish there was something I could say or do so he wouldnt get upset with me so easily. Because Im afraid if I keep getting him pissed, we wont last for much longer...

Just a thought: it is not necessary for a guy to have bipolar disorder for him to be a jerk.  And there are nice guys who DO have BPD.  But yes, BPD can contribute to unstable moods and unexpected and unwarranted confrontations.  Since he has been diagnosed, I am hoping he is under the regular care and treatment by a psychiatrist.  If not, that is the #1 thing he needs to do.  Whether or not he is currently seeing a psychiatrist or will be seeing one in the near future, go with him and present your side of the story -- what you have witnessed in his words and actions -- so that the doctor gets a clear and accurate picture of what's going on.

There is hope: and that hope is finding the right medication.  There are many medications out there, and combinations of medications.  It is his responsibility to pursue the medication that stabilizes his moods and restores him to that awesome man, the one you dearly love.  I hope you are aware that it is NOT something YOU should say or do to keep him from getting upset -- this condition is not your fault.  And it is not his fault that he has BPD.  But it definitely IS HIS FAULT if he does not pursue help and does not do everything he can to improve and secure your relationship.

Best wishes to both of you.

Thank you so much. Its really good to hear. But I wonder, can someone be too young to get medication, or to go see psychiatrist? And should I bring that up? And if I should, how do I do it?
