How can I find a FREE support group for bipolars like myself ?

I am between jobs, and need a support group that does not require insurance. I have been to support groups such as AA and other 12 step programs, and they are free, but they all "roll their eyes" when I mention "bipolar".  My predominant issue is Bipolar, and I was hoping that going to such groups might help, but 12-steps didn't seem applicable. And of course the "shared experience" support was lacking.

I am in the Atlanta Georgia area.

Thanks for this sire! I just found it!

I live in Tampa, FL and I go to a DBSA support group once a week. I have recently seen good info re groups here on this site or search DBSA or NAMI sites.  I find the groups helpful because we specifically talk about bipolar and depression and they are free. I feel like all the regulars are my friends and I look forward to going. Hope this helps and good luck!

In my area we have a metal health hospital that offers free support groups on a weekly basis.  Check with your local mental health facility.  There may already be a free support group in place, or you may become an advocate and start something wonderful.

I was diagnosed with Bipolar, mixed and rapid cycling by the age of 19. I have lived in the Atl area for 15 yrs (recently relocated to another state). There are MANY free support groups for Bipolar around Atl. Most of the "Behavioral Health" Hospitals have free groups. NAMI is big in the Gwinnett Co. area and attend Snellville Days @ Brisco Park. GRN is a clinic providing Psychiatry, Therapy (group and individual), meds, support for employment and etc all based on income for Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton Counties, GRN. Peachford Hosp has groups other than the AA, NA... they have a calendar in the lobby usually or you can phone them. Summit Ridge Hosp has a great group at the hosp in Snellville, if they still have it. I wish the best to you and hope I was of some help.
