I was on Eskalith for 11 years ( Lithium) . Lithium is a very good medicine , however it has been linked with hypothyroidism ,slowing of the metabolism, weight gain. I gained

45 pounds in 7 months! Since it is a salt , it can wear away tooth enamel and may one

more prone to tooth decay ,especially in the gum area. Make sure your dentist is aware you are taking Lithium. In fact , many SSRI's are associated with weight gain, research is being done at Long Island Jewish Hospital to develop SSRI's without the attendant weight gain as a side effect.Do not stop any medicine without your doctor's supervision, most of the antidepressants require that one come off them slowly. I hope this answers part of your question.
