Q: I think my bf may be Bipolar and want to know how i can help him through this...

Me and my boyfriend have been together since we were 16, we are now 19 and in university. We moved close to one another so we see eachother a lot and if he needs me iam just round the corner. Since we got together he was always happy and very competitive with his grades however he always sailed through and done better than me. Since we have moved to university he has become very worried about doing well and not pleasing his parents. He would phone me at 3am saying he needed me there and he needed a hug, so i'd go see him. He'd tell me he couldn't be bothered with it anymore and was feeling depressed and down about everything. Any chance he got to go home he would as he said he needed to forget he was at uni all together as the thot of all the work made his feel depressed. At one point he missed days of lectures as he just lay in bed worrying he had disappointed his parents. He is starting his second year in Uni now and he has been crying and worrying about how hard this year is going to be. I seem to upset him a lot and make things worse by trying to be happy and not make him think about it as he says he doesn't want to talk about it...I just need to know how I can be there for him without doing so. Please help, Is this BIPolar?

Hi.

I think he should ask himself if he really wants to be in college or he's only doing what his parents expect him to do.

He sounds more likely to be in a lot of unnecessary stress for all the reasons but the right ones. He needs to relax and understand he is doing the best he can and it sounds like he is doing well. He is not super man, if that's what he really wants to do than he should feel happy and have fun doing it.
