Q: How can we pick up the pieces?

Well, a few months ago, I found out that my bipolar husband cheated on me over a year ago. I am very hurt. Well I got on top of things, mood charts, meds, counseling etc. He has my full support and we are fighting together so this will never happen again. Well deep into conversation, he admitted that he lies all the time. Big or small, he lies about it all. I don't know how to break him of this habbit. I need advice for that. Also, my husband and I are trying to instill morals in him. He wasn't raised with good boundaries or morals. It took me 4 years to get it through his head that I am a woman, you open doors for women and let them walk through first. But there are a million other things that I have to teach him and it is a slow process. He is moving at a snails pace. Has anyone else had to go through this kind of thing with a bipolar spouse? I need advice!!!! Our marriage is at the breaking point.

Hi, Ashley. It's not my place to encourage people to break up, but you need to very carefully consider the lying issue. Just one lie constitutes a very serious breach of trust in a relationship and is sufficient cause for calling things to a halt. From what you say, your husband is a major project at best. Few of us are capable of taking on major projects, bipolar or no bipolar.

I've dealt with liars in relationships. I've also dealt with major projects. For me, the right choice came when I finally decided to put my needs first.
