Hi, Kate. No one enjoys being turned into a enuch. Males, in particular, have a thing about this. So, before you chew him out for going off his med, acknowledge to him that you understand.

There may be another med that won't affect his sex drive. But other factors enter into play, here.

For one - the med he has been prescribed may not be forever. Say, for instance, he can expect to be on the med for six months. Then living with no sex drive for six months is doable. The long term benefit is worth putting up with the temporary effect.

People make these choices all the time with treatments for other illnesses, most notably chemo for cancer. They know it's not forever. They put up with feeling like hell.

Another factor is patients are embarrassed telling their docs about the eunuch effect, and there are studies to prove this. So, rather than just giving up on the med, your husband needs to disclose everything to his pdoc. A sympathetic pdoc will work with your husband in finding another med, or maybe the same med at a lower dose.

Hope this helps -

The best thing to do is try and get him to see the Dr and see if there is a different medication that he may be able to take. The worst thing he can do is not be on medication.

Hope that helps :)
