Q: What's the deal about coping/not coping?

I have a friend who's bipolar. She is often in a stew, obsessing about this or that. So I try to do things and say things calculated to get her out of her slump. She tells me there is no possible way she can do anything with me before 2pm because her mornings "are horrible." Yet every time she talks to me, it is before noon and she has been to get her hair done, gone grocery shopping, and now she tells me she has to get up at 4am Friday to go to a 2-day conference with some friends. Yet she keeps putting off doing something with me. I'm beginning to wonder what is going on. She says I am the only one who understands what she is feeling. Is it possible that she doesn't want to share feelings before 2pm but can disguise her feelings when with other people? It's got me stumped.
