I suggest asking your psychiatrist or therapist about the possiblity of borderline personality disorder. I'm not saying you have it. But when you talk of cutting and the pain inside you - those are clear warning signs that cry out for further investigation.

Borderline and bipolar superficially resemble one another, which means misdiagnosis is easy. In bipolar, the experts talk of mood cycles; in borderline the experts talk of emotional lability. You're doing fine one minute, then something minor sets you off - bang! - you go postal. Keep repeating this and no one wants to know you.

There is a therapy especially designed for borderline - dialectical behavioral therapy - that produces excellent results. Even if you don't have borderline, you might find the therapy useful.

Final point: Your psychiatrist may be hesitant to diagnose you with borderline. So I suggest researching the illness first, and see what resonates with you. This will give you some talking points for your appointment.
