Q: Is being overly forgetful or having blank moments a side effect of citalopram?

I've been overly forgetful of late and I'm wondering if it's a side effect of Citalopram or if it's something else. When I say forgetful I mean that a simple task takes forever to master correctly, for example the other day I went to go pick up my partner from work, but when I got into hte car, turned hte key in the ignition I completely forgot how to drive, I sat in the car for about half an hour trying to figure out what did what, I looked at the gear and couldn't understand what the symbols and numbers meant. I've also had moments when I've been making a cup of tea and forgotten how to make it almost like a complete blank moment, and I've nearly scolded myself with hot water and have tipped sugar and milk onto the kitchen counter and I don't have epilepsy (as far as tests are concerned) It's kind of freaking me out a little bit.

"Loss of memory" is listed as being one of the less common side effects of citalopram. You should talk to your prescribing doctor about this as soon as possible.

Thanks Marcia, I managed to get to the doctor today with the snow clearing, and I mentioned then, he said he's going to keep an eye on it, because I also have migraine where the symptoms are changing he's looking at sending me back to the neuro. We'll have to see what happens... Reply
