For the first time, a new study suggests therapy that focuses on
practical lifestyle changes can ease the symptoms of bipolar
disorder. Maintaining a consistent sleep and wake schedule can help
people with bipolar disorder avoid insomnia and exhaustion, which
can trigger new episodes of mania or depression. People with
bipolar disorder tend to have extremely sensitive circadian
systems, which makes it much more difficult for them to recover
from disruptions in sleep and routine.
