Researchers have found that children whose parents have bipolar disorder have eight times the risk of developing attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder and six times the risk of developing another mental health problem than children of parents who do not have the disorder. But scientists say effective treatment of parents' mental health problems may help diminish the severity, delay, or prevent the effect of the disorder on children.
