A new report has found that 52.3 percent of newly diagnosed bipolar
disorder (BPD) patients are prescribed antidepressants as a
first-line treatment, despite recommendations that these patients
be given antipsychotics to stabilize their moods first. Researchers
say this prescribing pattern stems from the fact that primary care
physicians are doing much of the diagnosis and treatment for BPD
