How Is Lithium Used By Humans?

In a study of worms, the bipolar med lithium boosted the animals'
lifespan by 46 percent, raising questions about whether the med
could also increase lifespan in humans. Scientists say lithium
extended the worms' lives by 'turning down' the activity of a gene
that changes genetic structures and protects neurons. The
researchers say their findings may allow them to engineer a therapy
that has the same life-extending benefits.
