Mental disorders affect productivity worldwide: WHO

A collaborative study by the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Bank, and Harvard University has found that mental disorders accounts for more than a 15-percent disease burden on world markets, making these conditions a larger drain on production than cancer. The researchers also found that depression was the leading cause of years lost to disability, and that alcohol dependence and problem use are among the 10 leading causes of disability worldwide. Among the study's other findings was that mental problems are a problem worldwide, regardless of a country's level of wealth and development.
