Abilify, Xenical among drugs under FDA safety review

Officials with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) say they are reviewing dozens of products for potential safety problems. Among the products under review are the antidepressants Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft, which already carry strong warnings about the risk of suicidal behavior. Also on the list is schizophrenia and bipolar drug Abilify, which has been linked to liver toxicity and other issues. The weight-loss medication Xenical is also under review to see if FDA action is needed for reports of rectal bleeding linked to the drug. FDA officials caution that a drug's appearance on the list does not mean it's unsafe, only that the FDA has identified a potential safety risk.  Read full story >
